If you already have trim fitted, they shouldn't need adjusting.

Whatever you use make sure it is made from EPDM which has a high resistance to UV. I once had a camper with the fibreglass top trimmed with a push on seal. After a year or so the rubber had started to crack up allowing the metal inside to rust leaving nice brown streaks down the van. Replaced with a new trim from Seals Direct made from EPDM rubber and was fine for years after.

I think all of the caravan profiles listed by Seals Direct are specified in EPDM.

Hi everyone, I found another place to buy the seal from the German friends of Eriba
here the link of the website ( Germany): https://gummi-metall-puffer-shop.de/
art number: 1385415, KB 3-5, EPDM cost per meter 3,90 Euro including Vat
Its very similar to seal ETS 1668 from Seals and Direct
I bought 9 meters and pay 12,90 euro for delivery in Italy - total cost 48 euro. Kind and fast.
As soon as I change the seal I send you photos.
I hope I was helpful.
All the best

Just checking.....
About to order 8m of ETS1668 but looking again at the existing trim it is quite a different , the 1668 being much bulkier (better?).
Is this normal and am I safe to go ahead?
Advice much appreciated
Thanks
Bob

Some of these questions are already answered in this thread. I made a comparison between a couple of different extrusions in post #17 and #14

Ah yes, thank you, I can see now, on closer inspection that your original is very similar if not the same as mine...That’s good.
1668 it is then..
Thanks

I've just collected 8 metres of ETS 1668 from Seals Direct that they left outside on the step for me. It cost £57.22.

What a great company to deal with; they couldn't have been more helpful. Knowing which seal to purchase was a bit of a problem though as Automotive Leisure, who always previously used 1668 now use 1556. I understand that a different person now does their ordering.

I was asked to measure the thickness of the glassfibre edge of the pop-top which varied from 4-5 mm and was advised that 1668 was designed to fit up to 5 mm so would go on easier and be likely to last longer than 1556 as the steel in the U-channel that grips the roof would be less stressed.

Now here's a question, does anyone know what the correct gap should be on the rear edge? Ours was about 4 inches and always seemed a bit wide to me, but what gap do you now get on a factory-fresh Eriba?

Can anyone advise before I start hacking the seal about and bugger things up?

The gap in ours is a little under an inch. I can't prove it with a photograph because I haven't got one, and because I couldn't ever think of a reason for taking a picture of a gap in some black rubber trim on the off chance that someone might need me to produce it to prove that I wasn't making it up.

Or to demonstrate that I knew what three inches looked like, unlike a certain Mr R. France (someone who should remain nameless to preserve the last tatters of his dignity), who clearly is a person only too familiar with what three inches looks like

I reckon your four inch gap is four inches because the bit of trim they put on yours wasn't long enough to leave a two inch gap.

On the other hand it could have been so short that there was more gap than trim, so maybe you should consider yourself fortunate.

That's what comes of having your caravan made in France by artisans whose judgement seems to have been occasionally awry, thanks probably to a whisker too much Calvados avec déjeuner.

I am wondering where the idea of a gap at the back end of rubber roof trim has come from. Is it a result of it being incorrectly replaced by a previous owner. It could however as PePe politely said just be a typical French approach to quality.
Attached are roof shots of the 4 vans I've owned, 2 from new and 2 bought from the original owners. On none of these has been a gap.
