Just checked mine Colin and it has no gap either. As it is commonly stated that the trim is not a seal, maybe one is not needed.

Or to demonstrate that I knew what three inches looked like, unlike a certain Mr R. France (someone who should remain nameless to preserve the last tatters of his dignity), who clearly is a person only too familiar with what three inches looks like
.

So I'm not allowed to use my new camera wot was bought for me to take on this year's holiday or to show that with our garden clear of being a jungle I can now pop out and see our beloved Eriba within 30 seconds? That's a bit mean.

Pepe

Yours is a massive gap - ours appears to be about a quarter of an inch at most

Ours is a 2016 540GT and as we have had it from new I just assumed that this was normal.

Thanks, everyone.

I think Colin's vans look much neater for not having a gap so that's what I'll do with the new seal on ours.

The gap at the back is so that any water that collects in the trim can get out. As per one of my previous posts, it only needs to be an inch or so !

I know we are going over old ground here, but the seal is not a seal. It cannot be.
On pre 2010 models the grp pop top and the roof it sits on are moulded to such poor tolerances you could not seal one against the other. The exception would be if each pair were individually scribed into eachother, and I cannot see Hymer bothering to do that. The rubber trim tidies up and protects the raw edge,
On post 2010 models the meeting surfaces do appear to be better, but still not perfect
In both cases gaps can be found somewhere along the length and this gap will allow water out..
If/when I have to replace my rubber trim I will aim for a snug joint, that will inevitably open up as the rubber contracts with age.

Job done.

Here are the two seals in section and as you can see, they are completely different:

Original Replacement

The finished job:

I did notice when I closed the roof that the hold-down straps needed a bit more effort to secure but there are still slight gaps in places between pop-top and roof through which trapped water might escape but these may well close up over time.

I can only concur that the 'seal' is really there to cover up the unsightly and rough edge of the pop-top and to prevent chaffing when travelling.

Indeed.

If you want to avoid chafing while travelling try talcum powder, but give your shorts a good shake before going out.

Otherwise people might notice the little white clouds coming out of your strides as you walk along.

Or alternatively people may assume that the clouds of talc coming from your shorts indicate that you are an aged Northern Soul dancer and expect you suddenly to burst into backdrops and splits, whilst humming Frank Wilson's "Do I love you" very loudly..........................a strange picture indeed. .MikT

That's definitely the model we'll go for if we decide to change. The front dinette and longitudinal bed combination would be perfect.

We have the 540 and we absolutely love the lay out of the front diner & the longitudinal beds that can be used as singles or turn into a massive double

I don't quite know what I'm doing wrong here but if I am looking at the correct company I cannot find any ETS 1668 poptop rubber on the Seals Direct Website.
Can someone find a link please?
Also are they the company who offer different colours? It's not for me but I'm trying to answer a Facebook query.
