Hi, just woken up from winter hibernation and need to sort a 9 inch tear in the eriba's cover before the latest beast from the east makes landfall. Does anyone know of the right way of doing this? It's a new AL cover which we ripped when putting it on for the first time , and I assume it's a matter of cutting the spare material to fit, and gluing it with some proprietary gunk. I've checked the "how to" section, and searched, but couldn't find anything appropriate. Thanks!

I recall putting a patch on an awning using an impact/contact adhesive. Whilst your cover is not the same material I cannot see why the same adhesive would not work. It is flexible and should be waterproof.

It is only about a week since the wife and I got out the sewing machine and repaired a rip in our cover that we to had purchased from AL. It is about the poorest strength material that i have ever come across and it seems to be prone to tearing very easily when fitting and removing cover. I have looked at other vans covers and they seem to be of much better material. Now that's my moan over eckcan,

I went the whole hog and chopped up my AL cover into 6 separate panels. Root, back 2 sides and 2 front. Each is edged with a PU coated nylon strip with velcro attached. The front side and back panels slide into the awning rail with the roof panel capping it off all round. This makes putting it on and off so much easier, and has the added advantage of being able to roll up one or two of the front panels and the back panel to get the windows open from time to time. Although it was not the easiest job I am very pleased with the result which enables me to fit and unfit the cover quickly on my own (which also makes me more likely to use it). The combination of smaller panels and better quality material round the edges makes it less likely to tear. The smaller panels are also much easier to dry out before storage.

Hi Eckcan. If you click on the "cover modification" link in previous post there are some photos there. I have just put the cover on after a trip away and come up with another trick. Rolling the roof panel up - from back to front, along with a long webbing strap. Once the front is attached with the velcro, just lob the strap to the back of the van, give it a pull and it neatly unrolls the roof panel leaving you to just stick the velcro around the side. I thought this was brilliant even though I say so myself. must try a video of this.
