has anybody bought the Isabella Ventura Air Simplex 320

I have just been reading GT Runner's response to the awning request and his link to the Isabella Ventura Air Simplex 320.

It looks a really classy piece of kit shown on the photo of what looks like a Troll - despite the £1000+ price tag. However on the Isabella photo with the Troll it is set up so its looks as if the door would be obstructed by the awning itself.

Has anyone bought one of these to use on their Troll and if so does it obstruct the door?. Also if you have one how easy is it to erect and how heavy is to lift? Also I guess is it a good buy?
Cheers

Mike,
I've just checked the photos at a supplier [https://www.awnings.co.uk/ventura-air-simplex-w320.html] and that's a good call of yours on blocking the door. Looks like the van is a 540/542 as the door is very forward I cannot see how you could move the awning far enough forward to clear the door on these two Trolls or a 550. It should be OK though on a 530 or 535.
If you scroll down the link you'll get sizes and weights. It shows you need 30cm to the right of the door to accomadate the awning chord and triangular fillet of canvas. You only have 200mm on your van before the awing rail curves. A weight of 28.5kg compared to your Kampa at 21.4kg means it would be even heavier to pull into the track. Unfortunately it looks as if it would be no use to your good self.

Thanks Colin - that sounds an accurate assessment of the Isabella Ventura for our 540. We couldn't cope with anything heavier than the Kampa and it is over £1000.

I was seduced by how stylish it looked and the Isabella quality. Not sure how Kath would have responded to me suggesting that we need yet another awning.

I've been showing her the other links to the lightweight Vango drive away awnings but she thinks that because of their style they would be just like pitching a tent outside the Troll with all the pegging hassle again. I still think her making a side for the Shadow would be the best solution..................

Cheers
Mike

Mike,
I know I've mentioned it previously on several posts, but unless we are on a long pitch in which case we use the Kampa, our default setting is now the Isabella Shadow if weather is fine and Sunncamp Swift if the wet stuff is forcast. The two are left in the van as they are so lightweight. Last week in Devon it was "windy" and we did have a bit of wet stuff so the van was pitched back against the wind and we put the Sunncamp up in less than 10 minutes. Yes the roof does flap in the wind but at £115 [we paid £85 when it first came out] it is worth considering. Last year in the same area a storm hit and the van was rocking through the night, but the Sunncamp stayed put. I think this is due to the 150mm gap blow it's bootm edge and lack of front and under van skirt meaning the wind blew through.
We are off for three weeks end of August into September and are not taking the Kampa, just the Isabella and the Sunncamp.
Mike, I am so confident you would like it that if you are passing Formby, 50 miles south of you, you can borrow it and try it out.

Thanks Colin

It looks a possible alternative - I like the idea of taking the Shadow & the Suncamp Swift as alternatives because of their lightness. I will show Kath the pictures that yo linked to the previous post.

Thanks for your kind offer of letting us borrow your Swift to try out if we are nearby. I will get back to you if that looks to be a runner.

Once again thanks for your invaluable advice, not just over this canopy issue but on other things as well - you are the Eriba version of the Encyclopedia Britannica (showing my age there)

Cheers
Mike

Hi again Colin

We have looked at both the SunnCamp Swift 260 Canopy & also the Swift Verao 260 Low Awning. Given that they don't seem too different to set, being similar in structure, Kath prefers the awning. She likes the two doors on either side at the back and also that at some future date we could get the inner tent in for our eldest grandson to stay with us.

Like you we would still use our PopAir for outside Spring & Summer. We like the idea of throwing this and the Shadow into the back of the car to have a choice. Can you think of any pressing reason not to get the Verao, although it is £50 dearer?

Thanks again for your advice.

No good reason springs to mind. If it had been available at the time I would have gone for it.

Hi Mike, I have some pictures (close up and inside) of the Isabella VAS 320 that I took in Feb this year at the NEC. Would you like me to upload them ? Regards, Robbie.

Robbie,
it would be nice to have them on the site so members could get a better idea of the awning. If you could load them it would be appreciated.

I can only just about get by, most of the time, often with a helping hand on things like this. It sounds like the photos are to big and need to be resized so they are smaller file.
On my laptop I have something called "photosize". I've had it for several years and dragged it from one computer to the next. I remember it being a bit of pain to set up ant first but it is so esy to use. I have mine set at 1600 and simply copy and drag a picture over the desktop icon, hit the enter key and the job is done.
With the now resized and original file still intact I've never had a problem posting up to 10 or 12 images on websites such a sthis, e-bay etc.
This is the one, bear with it and your problems will be solved. http://www.rw-designer.com/picture-resize
