Hi. This is my first post. I have been tasked with purchasing an ERIBA by the wife. So I am looking and making enquiries with various companies. It appears that the ERIBAs hold their value very well and it also looks like the prices have been further inflated due to COVID. I have seen a lovely Triton 430 GT which is a 2015, for £20130. Yet for about £5k more ( maybe another £2k to kit it out more) I could buy a brand new Triton 430 GT and get it delivered around March/April time. So my question is wether it’s worth spending a relatively small amount extra and getting brand new? Especially knowing how well this caravans keep their value.
Many Thanks.
Andy.

Andy, we are on our 4th Eriba. We have bought new and 2nd hand from UK and abroad so have a range of experience. Our previous three vans we have sold for at least more than what we paid for them after owing each for between 2 and 6 years.
Whilst Eriba have strong residuals/hold prices very well, you are not assured of getting your money back if you decide to sell on after a year. One member has unfortunately found this out very recently.
If you want to play safe then my advice would be to buy a private 2010 ish van as close to your preferred specification as you can and run it for two years. After this length of time you will have worked out if Eriba life is for you. You may be lucky and have found the van exactly meets your requirements and is still in excellent order, so it's a keeper. You may realise that you prefer a different model or specification and in which case it would be fair to assume you would get your money back when selling it on.
By the way, I don't wish to speak out of turn in case the Triton is owned by a forum member, but £20,130 sounds steep for a 2015 Triton 430. If I was to sell our 2017 fully loaded Triton 430 now [which I am not] I would be looking at about that figure.

I've never been in the position of being able to afford a new Eriba or a nearly new Eriba for that matter but I think folk will agree that, like car purchases, you'll take the biggest hit on your Eriba in the first few years after purchase.
There are "straight out of the wrapping" Eribas for sale because of a change of circumstances due to Covid that are losing about 5 grand although they've not been used. I saw a Blue Ocean Drive being advertised for around £22,000 the other day.
However, the longer you intend keeping the van then the more profitable it'll become and by the 10th year or thereabouts I would suspect that you'll stop loosing all together on it. As an example, we've had our 22 year old van for 11 years and it is now worth about £2000 more than what we gave for it.

Thanks guys. It’s all food for thought. Things since only a couple of hours have moved very fast. I have just had an offer accepted on a brand new 60th edition of a triton 430 with a Reich motor and ceramic paint protection. £25000 delivered. Does that sound about the money for that. It’s looks fantastic with the 2 tones. What do you guys think?

It really is a matter of personal choice but I would hesitate before buying new for the first time. We are on our third Eriba. The first didn’t have a toilet so we upgraded having had 8 happy years with it, we got back slightly more than we paid for it. The second we quickly realised was not actually the layout we wanted, that van was written off in an accident which was not our fault. With hindsight that was a positive thing as we are happy with the van layout we have now.
Maybe you could have a look at a few different vans (tricky in the current situation) and really try to imagine living in it.
Good luck in finding YOUR perfect Eriba.

That was a quick move. I'm not sure if the £25K is a good price or top money, it's down to the hidden extras. The only way to work it out for sure is to look very carefully at the price list, attached.

Thanks. This is what I don’t understand. The price with Eriba is £22k. That’s with the 60th anniversary pack. It does mention awning with led lights and a few other items which I am not sure would come as standard. I have never owned a caravan before. We are campers.

Like Roger I have never been in the position to buy a new van. My personal opinion now is you need the dealer you are buying from to give you a complete breakdown of what exactly you are paying for, fully itemised so there is no doubt.

So this is it. I assume the things listed down after the price are not standard and is not part of the 60th anniversary package. What do people think? It also includes the Reich motor and paint protection at the bottom.

Hi Andy and welcome to the Forum
You have had some good advice already and you need to perhaps factor in that these are "unusual times" and demand for Eribas has increased massively.
We were campers like you when we got our Troll 540GT in 2016 We toyed with several used vans but couldn't find what we wanted We ended up putting extra money to our original budget to get exactly what we thought we wanted. in a new Troll 540. Word of advice check the specification & extras carefully, as Hymer charge for everything. We got the heater but not included were the pipes that fed the heat to the vents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Although the 60th Editions come loaded as Julie says check exactly what you will be getting for your money. It sounds that with the awning you are getting some extras that are included in your price.
It sounds a great van and I'm sure that you will have some fun times together in it.Enjoy
MikeT

Thanks Mike. Yes I have seen the list for standard for the caravan plus the extras you get as part of the 60th edition. It’s the things after like awning, 3 burner gas, shower equipment etc that he has listed after saying 60th equipment.
Because the list price of the caravan plus 60th equipment is £22k. I will be paying £25k delivered.

Andy You will need to go through the specification in the price list for the 60th edition and then add the further extras e.g. three burner hob, awning etc to see if you are getting value for money. You may want to check the unrated axle as according to the price list it is a 1300kg uprating as an option not the 1400kg quoted by your dealer.
