I saw one of the four-bolt clamps on an Eriba at AL yesterday and I have to admit that it is a far more substantial-looking piece of kit than the two-bolt replacement that I fitted. Perhaps I should have done as crow suggested and fitted one?
The four-bolt clamp is only a couple of pounds more expensive than the two-bolt but onto that you would need to add the cost of two bolts and Nyloc nuts.

You can save on the Nyloc nuts by buying, if you haven't already got some lying in the old toolbox, some Loctite Thread Locker of the blue variety. Used this stuff for years on my motorcycles and even with the constant vibration that the bike(s) are subject to I've never had a bolt come lose. Using the blue variety (medium strength) ensures the bolt stays secure but that the seal is broken easily enough when using a spanner to undo any nut.

Fitted a new Alko four-bolt clamp plus the Alko Premium jockey wheel today (2013 540). Hopefully the clamp will cure the tendency for the jockey wheel tube to adopt severe angles of lean!

Nice looking job, Keith. Like me you probably had a bit of a job turning the bottom pair of nuts? Turn 1/8" remove spanner - refit spanner - turn 1/8" and so on and so forth lol.

I was wondering if Eribas with motor movers are more likely to have jockey wheel problems?
My reasoning is that for non-mover vans like ours, we are obliged to manoeuver the van using the car. Because of the weight on the van there is little prospect of pushing it too far with its jockey wheel down.
However we often see vans with movers being unhitched on the roadway and positioned on the emplacement using the mover, often climbing raised curbs etc.

Thats my belief to, and because I move by hand I always ensure the jockey wheel is facing the right way to allow me to push or pull the van without encountering yet more resistanceI also find it less difficult to manouvre with a solid wheel
Like to wax and have a smooth finish

Can't answer for Keith obviously, but we don't have a mover fitted to our van (Triton 430) and the picture shows the appearance of the Jockey Wheel before even taking delivery of it. It should be noted, however, the state of the ground over which the van is being moved allowing the wheel to sink in somewhat. This obviously adds to the strain/force being placed on the wheel which under normal everyday use probably wouldn't happen. However, I considered the risk of something breaking whilst manouvering on site to be too great and so for the cost of a 4-bolt clamp decided not to take it. By the way, the entire Jockey Wheel assembly was changed by the dealer before our collecting the van but not the clamp which remained the 2-bolt system.
The problem is, and again I reiterate that the ground as shown in the image has not helped the situation any, that with the 2-bolts situated centrally in the clamp this allows for a slight pivotting during movement of the van. It doesn't have to be a great movement - something in the order of 1 degree but when extrapolated along the entire length of the Jockey Wheel shows a fair amount of deflection. With 4-bolts fitted as shown in Keith's image above the clamps surface and mating surface are held firmly together along the entire length of the clamp thereby no movement/pivotting is able to take place.
This obviously doesn't affect all vans otherwise we'd have heard more about the problem and I guess this is as a result of a number of things: weight of van, distribution of weight i.e. nose heavy and type of ground to name but few. That said, I would hesitate to guess that this could possibly affect all vans at sometime or other depending on the type of ground upon which they are camping i.e. how much strain is placed on the Jockey Wheel as a result of the ground conditions. If the wheel is allowed to rotate freely without any hinderance of course the resistance is going to be very low and no deflection should be evident.

good grief the jockey wheel been merry.. wonder if the attachment has actually been welded slightly off the 4 bolt takes up the error, going to ponder over a cuppa
pleased to say mine not like that, even with blocking tyres side to side off blocks at axle wheels (to get her up hill) jockey doesn't distort to such an angle.
(considered one of those tanks to go under hitch but its a lot of money unless can attach lawn mower now there's a thought )
