That's right Agger...the ones I had, fitted in the same way against flaps of awning material....the correct location was always a problem..

I think that was the problem with the fitting I had on my caravan and awning 39 years ago......nothing solid behind the caravan wall to take the pressure when you tensioned up the awning pole.......... Sounds like things are better and more solid on your Triton 430..

Looks nice 4ndy....how is that awning attached to the caravan..? Is it with screwed on brackets..clip on fittings or something else..? How long does it take to erect..?

This is how a Soplair Awning attaches to my Puck L. You will note that it is screwed into the awning rail. This is how it was supplied (with the Soplair awning) new from Lechlade (2002).

Has had much use, never a problem, secure and water-tight So my bet is go for the 'screw - in' fitting, unless you have a free standing awning.Awning Fixing PuckL Soplair.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Thanks for your input here Ribski...
I must admit that I am leaning towards the 'screw- in fitting'.......

Ours is just like that, on a 2004 Troll 540gt, having just replaced all the Herzim strip, and having to remove these attachments I can confirm on ours we had no problems at all, I did replug the screw holes with fresh mastic and then replaced the plastic and metal parts of the awning pole attachments

Ours too. Most of the second-hand vans on AL's website have them as well.

Actually, this reminded me of something I was wondering about but forgot to ask.

We've got three of those cast brackets, one at each end of the rail where you'd expect them to be and a third one in an odd position above the rear side window.

I can only assume that the the oddly-placed one is there for a shorter awning, but one which would neatly slice across that window, rendering it mostly useless.

We don't have a bracket in the middle, equidistant between either pair, which is a bit odd. As it happens it makes no difference as we don't have an awning which would use them, but it's still a bit of a puzzle...

It's probably for one of these. A Soplair Sun Canopy.

Randa

Looks like it, doesn't it.

Thanks, Cap'n

I need to brush up on my awnings

Presumably that Soplair doesn't use a fixing in the middle, then?

I think the Soplair Classic Awning does but the Sun Canopy doesn't.

I think there are some classic awnings without a centre fixing though but I can't remember which.

I would just like to thank everyone for their 'awning advice'.....
I will just have to consider everyone's input and then make a decision about which awning to go for....
When the final choice is made I will let you know...

I've been considering the Flex awning from Automotive Leisure at £540. I've found this on line - it looks the same but is it too good to be true? I'm not sure how it fixes onto the Troll? http://www.obelink.co.uk/awnings-canopie...egory_id%3D4192

All advice welcome.

The alternative we are thinking about is the AL Porch awning

Many thanks

Our PuckL came with an NR awning as part of the 2nd hand deal. It's not the easiest and is all poles, but we manage, although thinking of switching to a Vango Air if we can sell the one we have. Maybe next year.
