Hi Mark. So you've had a similar experience to Derek regarding the pins and plates? Amazing. Hopefully all will go well for you in the next few weeks and months and like Derek, you'll be back up and fighting fit ready for some great Eriba trips next year.

Thanks Mark and of course all of you. It does worry me when I read of other orthopaedic cock ups like mine and others and wonder if it will finally be OK.

To be fair, I don't think my problem was anyone's fault. All the smashed bones at the bottom of the leg had healed nicely, but the main break higher up the tibia hadn't. So, as I became more weight bearing, the plate was taking the strain rather than the bone, so it broke.
Just out of interest Derek, how long do you think it takes to examine the CT scan? I have a scan booked for 9.30am and an appointment with my consultant at 3.00pm. I guess They won't know the same day?

Hello Mark. One of my doubts has been similar to your situation in that maybe I got on too well.
I understand it takes about 2 weeks for the scan results to be finalised so your times may not work. As a matter of interest I aim to phone the scan people and make sure my results will be available for my appt at fracture clinic next Tuesday. I am informed that SHOULD be OK but will check. Good luck.
Just made that call and the results are through therefore I will get them at the clinic. Phew! That's one worry gone.

Thanks P
Worst possible news, Carole and I in tears after the clinic, saw one of Mr Hook's registrars. CT scans show the bone hasn't healed, so it will be surgery to replace the broken plate and add a bone graft, maybe from my hip, onto the fracture to repair the bone. Back to square one. No idea of when, the consultant will phone me at start of next week as he is away now to discuss the plan. Hope to get a date and also the after effects, wheelchair? stairs? weight bearing? driving? and of course caravan plans. Carole has a ski holiday booked in January and she's unsure now. We are so depressed.

So sorry to hear the news both. The only think you can do is think positive. If there ever is a best time of year then this is it. Get it done and lie low for a few months to get everything to heal properly.
