Hmm. Interesting
Now that the majority of the above posters have more or less convinced me that I should buy a reasonably priced torque wrench (there's still a lot of "quiet" people out there ) I'm now faced with the following dilemma.
a) There are quite a few reasonably priced wrenches with good reviews and I'll only be using it for the wheels of the Eriba and the car so why go expensive?
b) I'm not going to find it easy to come to terms with it, if my new torque wrench is telling me that my nuts are tight enough yet my ageing muscles are telling me that my nuts are not as tight as they have been for the past 50 years

For the best part you would be correct, Roger. However, keep in the back of your mind that you won't be buying your everyday spanner that may or may not be made from steel with the consistency of soft butter, but instead a precision tool.
Like most guages, and for the purposes of this post I'm categorising the wrench as a guage due to the fact that is relying on a spring and a calibrated scale, it will be most accurate towards the centre of the reading/scale. So my advice would be to purchase a torque wrench whose middle setting falls around the 100Nm and 120Nm mark as you'll be using is solely for torquing the wheel nuts.
I'm not suggesting that this one is particularly the best available but if I was in the market for a torque wrench I'd certainly be giving it some consideration. I'm not going to recommend you anything available from the German manufacturer that I purchase from which are used extensively in our motoring industry because they are pretty darn expensive. But for me motorbike riding is dangerous enough by itself so when I'm screwing/unscrewing, bolting and unbolting things on our bikes, I want the best and most reliable tools I can lay my hands on. Some people lay out a lot of hard earned on polishes and waxes LOL - me I invest in quality tools.
Anyway - here's one that seams fairly reasonable; made from decent steel and appears to be well covered by guarantee. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-63356...s=torque+wrench

I'm currently using a snap on that I had from a friend when he sold up, it's about 20 years old but it has a wooden case and looks new. I keep it in the car, as that way it's with me all the time not just when I'm towing. Problem with that is my car has run flats and no spare But it still has the appropriate sockets for caravan and car wheel removal, you just never know when you might need it!
As an aside keeping your nuts tight is what wise people do

Picked one up from screwfix this afternoon as in my link above....................looks a sturdy piece of kit for the money.
I have had a norbar small one for years for use with motorbikes but it does not go high enough for car and caravan wheels.

Those are the two I had in mind
The Amazon wrench is the same model as Screwfix's (but without the 5" extender bar and that useless 3/8" adapter) and is £8 cheaper, to boot.
But, if you're only going to be using it for the wheel fixings you may find a shorter bar, like this one, easier to use.
And you'll need a 17mm/19mm combination socket (or individual ones) but if you haven't got one already, a wheel wrench, like this, includes the socket.
One of the reviewers wrote,"Wheel brace very good, handy to store in car 'boot'. Adapter not compatible with laptop power port difference in diameter".
