Correct way to shut pop top on Puck??

A quick question if you don't mind, when shutting the pop top, is it necassary to pull all the canvas inside the caravan before clipping shut or can it stay folded up in the gap between the two parts of the roof? By the way, how tight should the elastic be round the outside of the canvas? Thanks guys and gals! Peter

It should all be inside, it might be damaged by being trapped and may also stretch the securing clamps, the elastic should pull it in if not it needs replacing or tightening.

Hi Peter, when closing the roof the elastic should be tight enough to make the fabric come inside the van. Ideally you don't want it outside the van in-between the two roofs. It will encourage algae to grow on the material. It sounds like you need to renew your elastic.

A post from Crow in an old topic shows where to get new elastic

Zitat
Shock Cord and fittings, 5mm for the pop top and 2mm for the curtains
http://www.bouncingrabbit.co.uk/page3.htm
I think I bought 10mtrs. after doing the pop top, the rest was used inside
to run from the pop top fastenings front to back to hang tea towels on to dry.
I also use it when there is a dip and the awning skirt is too short to peg down,
just make a suitable short loop to connect, very useful stuff.

Get some small cable ties and 5mm shock cord,
then with the roof raised attach the new cord to
the old by reaching through one of the vents.
Pull in the new cord remove the old cord, make
your joining loop with the small zip/cable ties
put the free end through the loop and tension
gently. Secure temporarily and bring the roof
down watching the canvas is pulled in completely.
Secure the linking loop and if satisfied work the join
around inside the nearest covered loop.
The loops can be knotted if you prefer I just found
the cable ties convenient.

Don't worry about ordering too much shock cord it can
be used as door retainer, an indoor drying line, bands
to hold tent poles together etc. very useful stuff.

I used to pull the roof down not caring about nipping the canvas, but now I don't. Carole does a lot of this now and never bothered either.

Just be careful the blue dye does'nt run when wet! I used coloured shockcord when kite flying and the colours would often leech out when wet, not a problem on kite spars BUT on Eriba canvas the result could be catastrophic!! Just a thought😎

Likes to wax and have a smooth finish! Has an empty space where once a very polished Eriba stood😎

I've always found it helps to have the entrance door open before pulling the roof down.
The air displaced need a way to escape so if the door is shut the canvas will bellow out and get trapped.

Soaked a couple of short bits in warm water this afternoon................ no problems it seems to be woven blue nylon over a white multi core elastic.................... seal the ends with a flame
