Mine were already fitted when I got the van, yes you need the spacer as well or there is not room for the hooks to go through.
I think they are fitted there so the screws go into the box section frame inside the alloy skin, some sealer in the holes when fitting should make them waterproof.

If you are worried about it may be better to get the dealer to fit them for you.

OK...Thanks...yes there is a rubber bead that covers the location which is also not ideal.

I have a small sailing cruiser so I am used to drilling holes in things and keeping water out (but they are a last resort normally!).

I will wait for the dealer to come back to me but will develop a Plan B with some small stick on pads... the water proof adhesives are easily strong enough to hold these. Also, I think I could stitch a couple of rings or lugs into the awning as well.....but really i just wanted to put it up.

If anyone else has ideas I would be grateful....espcially a description of how the lugs were fitted or better yet if there are pictures/videos or diagrams for this anywhere.

If not I will post my before and after pictures when I get it done.

Hi Sunnybg

Did you ever get an answer on the question of screwing fixtures into rail. We're thinking of buying the Verona but a little concerned on making holes in our new van.

Thanks

Hi Peppy

Thanks that does help.

I'm very reluctant to screw anything into our new Eriba. Going to keep looking for an awning solution that doesn't need these hooks. It's a shame as the Verona looked the perfect option of sun shade and full awning.

If anyone can suggest an awning that might work on a post 2010 Eriba Touring 530 I'd really appreciate the help.

Mike

Not sure I understand the concern here regards the eyelets.

I have had five Eribas with various awnings over the years and all have used the screw on rail eyelets. My latest van a 310GT was bought new last year and came with eyelets supplied in the info pack containg the manuals.

If Eriba are supplying them for fitment if you require them, I don't see an issue. I fiited my own but if you uncomfortable doing that get them fitted by the dealer. Providing they are fiitted as specified by Eriba they have no effect on the water ingress warranty.

My Unico Bologna awning uses them and it is by far the best awning I have had on any of my Eribas.

I would stick with the idea of a Unico Verona and just get the eyelets fitted by a dealer, make sure if you do they fit genuine Eriba eyelets as they are much better quality than the after market ones you can buy.

Marlinman is quite right. I have also had 4 Eribas with the eyelet style awning fixings and I fitted the latest ones myself.
Incidentally they are also useful for 'alternative' uses such as securing the Isabella shadow from sideways movement in the awning channel and for holding a Fiamma Caravanstore bag up with a suitably bent pin of some sort. Etc. Etc.

Thanks Tony and John

I've spoken to AL and they are going to fit them for me when I take my van in for a service. We're going to stick with the Verona as it seems to fit all our needs.
