My husband will like that, Julie LOL Joking aside, I would have cried with frustration. It's terrible when you think of the price of a new eribabe.

To top it all they even had the nerve to glue a vivid blue molded plastic plaque on the rear of the van declaring that it was the companies anniversary and that the Eriba had been supplied by them. i don't object to number plate advertising but please don't deface the lovely look of the Eriba with promotional tack

That is shocking to badge it with promotional tack without asking if they could.

Hi Baldrick,
I wouldn't fret too much. Every manufacturer produces a 'Friday afternoon vehicle' every now and then, even Rolls Royce. If it happened all the time they'd go bust so I guess it doesn't happen all the time. As Jason at AL said to me about camp-site toilets: "If the toilets are absolutely jaw droppingly fantastic you'll tell 2 or 3 of your friends. If they're the most vile and unhygienic mess imaginable you'll tell the world and his brother". It's a truly, truly awful experience for poor old Brian on what should have been a truly special occasion but I don't think (hope) its endemic.

The fact remains, that the selling dealer has a duty and responsibility to check and rectify faults before the product is delivered to the customer ! If this occurred un checked in the nearest equivalent industry, the car industry, cars could be delivered in all sorts of 'states' in which they left the factory !

Properly carried out PDIs are the answer :)

On reflection of my experience I do think that Lowdhams are the problem and not so much Hymer. The bed frame may have been dismantled to fit my mover isolator switch and the cable for my extra sockets and not assembled back in place correctly, or at all.( this work was done at Lowdams, not at Hymer). The specs not being what I had ordered is the fault of Lowdhams not Hymer. The positioning of the external mains socket is again down to Lowdhams. I wouldn't let my experience put anyone off buying a new Eriba because although expensive they are still a lovely little van, But I would avoid buying it from Lowdhams. Brian.

Thanks for clarifying that, Brian. It's a very important point indeed.

I was certainly under the impression that all the faults you mentioned had been built-in at the factory.

Lowdhams should be thoroughly ashamed at having let you down so badly.

Lowdhams seem to have dipped in and out of the Eriba dealership business over the years. I wonder if they are missing out on the expertise needed to fit and maintain the after market extras that customers want.

Where to a certain extent I agree with pianosteve, I do feel that there is an endemic occurring. I was talking to a couple who we the owners of a 2015 Triton 420 at the weekend. The had brought the Triton brand new from AL and they were detailing all the faults with it. Blueyonder and I have documented all the faults we have experienced since taking possession of new Triton from AL in April 2014.

Well I have to admit and acknowledge that the course of redress and responsibility (under contractual law) sits squarely (in our circumstances) with AL and in my case I have little to complain about AL's responses to my complaints. However there does come a time when I feel that the bigger picture is being missed.

Correct me if I am wrong, I was always under the opinion that Eriba's were meant to be a high end product and as such justifiably demanded a price premium. Haymer took back the manufacture of Eribas from France because of poor quality. I know that in the UK we demand a higher spec on new vans sold than perhaps on the continent.

Every one I have spoken to about new Eribas has some kind of tale of woe or warranty issue! I am sure those of you who are members of that forum 'that shall not be named' could recount similar stories.

Is it not time, that as forums we should be making our views known not only to the UK dealers (who we have our course of redress to) but also to Hymer directly. Is there (question for Forum Administrators) a way we can collate our views and opinions and make the dealers and Hymer aware that we (as their customers) have had enough of poor quality and that all concerned should do something to address our concerns?

Now getting off my soap box

I fully agree!
I have a long list of faults on our 2013 Troll and they are still becoming apparent.
These include some major ones that might not have been picked up in pdi like the bed frames coming apart, gas locker lock failures, bathroom compartment door insecure, dished roof, overhead locker trims split etc etc
I think our current wardrobe problem was caused by an over torqued screw snapping. Over time it has become discovered through repeated movement in transit. I can't believe it just snapped one day.

I don't think a collective message from this forum would be any more effective than a lot of separate ones from individual owners.

We couldn't claim to be a body (official or otherwise) which represents the readership because we aren't, and unless we quoted all the individual complaints verbatim and attributed their sources, anything we said would be anecdotal and carry no weight at all.

If people feel sufficiently aggrieved about the perceived drop in quality there's more they can do than send an e-mail - both Hymer and Hymer Eriba have Facebook pages. If you can complain in an e-mail there's no reason not to do it on Facebook, and a Facebook complaint gets read by many, many more people.

And if you feel really strongly about this, don't just send an e-mail to Hymer's inbox. Send one to the company CEO.

I have bought two Familia 320s from new, a 2012 from AL which had some electrical issues and this appeared to be a common problem across the 2012 models, with the help of forum information I had the glitches cleared up under the warranty from Lowdhams in Huddersfield. AL had also put there own advertising plate on the back which was screwed into the bodywork which I wasn't impressed with.
My 2016 Familia was bought from Lowdhams in Huddersfield, I got a good trade in price for my old Familia, no workmanship issues and no advertising plate ..
Because Eribas have such a long life most folks will have bought their van second hand so will have never encountered the snags that possibility the first owner may have had to have rectified, granted major issues should be picked up on a PDI, however some problems will only become evident when the van is in use. Personally I still believe Hymer make a quality van, Bigdiddyvan had a very bad experience which sounds like it was due to the dealership.

I think it's also worth adding that second-hand Eribas also have their issues, my recurring BIP problems being a perfect example.

Over the past five years of ownership I've had to sort out lots of snags and I reckon that 50% or more of the screws holding hinges on and panels together are now fixed into matchsticks superglued into the original holes. I think our holidays last year were the first occasions when I haven't had to carry out some sort of repairs on site.

Maybe it's the same with all makes of caravans?
