A bad day at the office

Hi all, The day that we have been waiting for, for 7 months has finally arrived, my 2008 550 Troll has at last been repaired and ready to trade in at Lowdhams, Nottingham, and my new Troll 540 had arrived. Off we went to do the business.
Looking over the new van was a disaster, a three ring hob had been ordered, a 2 ring hob had been fitted, a gas/electric fire had been ordered a gas only fire was fitted, the exterior mains socket had been fitted exactly where the awning side panel attached to the van instead of between the rear under bed door and the fridge grills as requested. The bathroom door handle mechanism was out of line with its keeper so would not stay closed, and possibly worst of all when I lifted the bed to check out the leisure battery the bed frame fell to bits with screws falling to the floor. What a total joke. Even the workshop manager could not believe what he was seeing. We decided to get our deposit back and take our 2008 Troll back home with us. Even this had its problems as someone had broken the silver fibreglass A frame cover 2 big cracks. At least Russ in the repair shop made an excellent job of repairing the door and bodywork. Now I need to source a replacement cover and Bill Lowdhams for it. It has put me off new Eribas for ever, I will stick with my 2008 550 now. I have had better days

What a truly rotten experience on what should have been a great day. Sincere commiserations.

Horror stories like this are all too common with new Eribas when we all presumed that quality control would have improved following the move from France to Germany. So much for Teutonic efficiency, eh?

I'm sure that you have made the right decision and best of luck with Lowdhams. Paying for the damage is the very least that they they should do.

Thanks for your response, just worried that my search for the cover may be fruitless, I'm trying Jandi and AL. Thanks again.

These stories about new Eribas are now all too frequent. It is Hymer's poor quality control at fault.
Jandi should be able to source the A frame cover. I have recently replaced mine (2013 Troll) with Jandi supplying it for around £65.

Sorry to hear about your awful experience but I'm starting to get a little concerned about the potential state our new 310 will be in ! Fingers crossed all will be well but it goes against all I'd heard or read about Eribas and their build quality it's one of the reasons we decided to buy one high price notwithstanding.

Whatever happened to pre-delivery inspections?

It's all very well for the workshop manager to be aghast, but he should have checked that the van as delivered to them:

a) met Bigmandiddyvan's specification before letting him see it, let alone telling him it was ready for collection, and

b) that any faults from the factory were corrected.

That's the whole point of a PDI.

As the supplying dealer all this should be laid at Lowdham's door.

It shouldn't be up to the OP to spend time sourcing a new fairing, and Lowdhams should be compensating Bigman for the wasted journeys as well as some kind of goodwill gesture.

And needless to say the factory doesn't come out of this smelling of roses.

Thanks for all of the supportive comments, I got my goodwill gesture from Lowdhams this morning, a brand new 2017 model 540 (God knows when I would get it) with everything fitted that I asked for, and in the right place. Wait for it, at 2016 prices?????? Talk about rubbing salt in the wounds. I seriously would not even do a straight swop with my old 550 for a brand new model after yesterday's fiasco. See you all at the summer meet, in my trusty old 550.

I have to agree with Pete, Lowdhams should have checked the van over before Brian even knew it was there. In my youth I worked for a main agent (car). All new vehicles were given a full PDI before the customer ever saw them. Any problems were then sorted without the customer knowing anything about them.
Does make you wonder about the new vans though, beginning to think the French weren't as bad as we all thought, had assumed the Germans would do it better, huh!
