Excellent post, Deeps. I have followed this thread in the hope I might be missing something but for all the illustrations and my own personal experience I just cannot see that this strip can make any marked difference. The word "gimmick" comes to mind. Without vertical awning rails an Eriba awning cannot be watertight. Your idea of spraying the stitching will have as good a solution without all the hassle that the strip obviously causes.

I can testify that spraying the awning cord does help, a bit. I soaked that on a previous Soplair with Febtex? I think.
As you say though, we are never going to get it watertight but every little helps.

Hi, the plastic strip is real swine to fit, I ended up trying to warm it and lie it flat to remove the kinks from being sent it folded up. I managed to clip the loose hanging part when trying to slide it onto the gutter rail. I too got very frustrated but managed it in the end. Once fitted it has to remain in place whilst travelling, I consider it very unlikely to come off as it's so hard to get on in the first place.

Hi
I mentioned in another thread we fitted our gutter strip by clamping the flat section in an old workmate bench and running a taped up screwdriver end along the channel.
Gradually massaging the channel open then trying it on the gutter until we were happy.
That and storing it in length rather coiled up helps fit it easily every time.
It fits so well that when we forgot to remove it we did the 85 mile journey back luckily with no mishaps.

All the best

Tom
