Hi Rev.
You don't say what age your Puck is but I've heard that many Puck owners go to K.Drewe for good value.

If you live in France, consider MACIF we paid €100 including breakdown for Eriba Troll 550 GT. Normally things are much more expensive here but after getting ridiculous quotes we were advised to get a quote from MACIF and we are over the moon. But in France your car must be insured with the same company as the caravan. (Just a point to bear in mind) Hope this helps.

Have today renewed our insurance with Saga on a new for old basis on our Triton which is 2007 vintage, less than half the price quoted on like for like cover with Caravan and Motorhome club (where do they get their figures from?) Usually I surf about getting various quotes but we've recently moved house and are currently in the midst of dragging the house screaming and kicking out of the 1960's and we've just about run out of energy. Have been with Towergate in previous years also C&CC Caravan club haven't tried Safe guard but will diary them for a quote for next renewal.

£250 for a Puck that must be at least 8 or 9 years old seems an awful lot.

We paid £210 for Caravan Club insurance last year based on our 2012 Bailey Rimini.

We do have 4 years No Claims (-£108)
Discount for having ATC (-£61)
Wheel lock (-£71)
Discount for attending CC's one day caravanning course (-£15)
Opting for a £200 voluntary excess (-£52
Opting out of their standard contents cover (-£104) and then added back £1,000 of contents cover at a cost of £32, so a net saving of £72.

The basic premium started life at £580 .

The thing is, how much you paid doesn't have any bearing on how much anyone else might pay.

None whatsoever.

Because everybody's - literally everybody's - circumstances and how they are treated by the insurance company's risk algorithm are different, you just can't make comparisons, never mind meaningful ones.

It seems an awful lot to me too, but neither of us are the OP.

It's very true that everyone's risk profile is different but breaking down the costs and showing the discounts (or additions) involved provides a guide to what sort of things help reduce or increase the cost and by what sort of amount.

To add a sort of perspective to this, our Troll which is roughly the same age, is costing us about £155 and that includes Continental travel. It's with Saga but Towergate were pretty similar the year before.

The important questions to us where:-

1) Where kept? In our case, in a securely locked field behind the house.
2) Tow Hitch Lock and Wheel Lock? Yes to both.
3) (Presumably) our address?

It might do if every company gave the same discount for the same stuff, but they don't.

I still contend that attempting to give someone else an idea of what their insurance might cost based on what one's own does is meaningless.

I'm not suggesting that it's not well-intentioned. Not for one minute.

All I'm saying is that I think there are so few common factors between any two insurees that it makes it a futile exercise.

You need to get on the blower.

Arguably a better guide as to who to contact initially is how their service stacks up in the event of an incident, but the best you can hope for there is finding a company of whom the majority of reviewers - responders, or customers, or whatever - speak favourably.

And that's going to mean relying on Internet content, unless you know hundreds of caravan owners. Which I guess you do.

I've spent hours sorting out insurance for our first Eriba (picking it up later this week) & we have decided to go with Towergate - Premium including key cover is approx £180.00 with a £75.00 excess - just hoping they are as good as we have been told they are by others on this forum - I guess time will tell if we have to make a claim....

That's the only time you'll know. Towergate were good at taking our money for severn years and generally where easy to deal with. However we didn't need them.

We changed to Saga because two members on here each had serious accidents last year which Saga dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Just getting back up to speed with this as had a glorious week in the wind and rain on Lanzarote. Now refreshed and warm again my brain is working.

I agree with Pepe to some extent about the lack of seeming logic and consistency when dealing with any insurance company for anything. I have a lot of examples but a recent one was with my wife's oldish car.

We had used the same insurance company for a long time and insured both our cars with them. The insurance for our main car stayed reasonable but for my wife's Corsa suddenly went through the roof so we moved to a different one - one that isn't on price comparison websites and were happy with them for three years. Then the last two years it went considerably higher so I got other quotes and low and behold the original reputable company that we had left all those years ago was now offering us insurance at 50% less than they quoted us 4 years previously!!

i wouldn't go with them as a matter of principle but went with another company with a "good " reputation and saved over £200!!! When I rang the other company to tell them I was not renewing the young man on the phone was smoothly irate as he said he would have matched our quote. A philosophical discussion then followed, without swear words or raised voices, about how old gits like me didn't like playing this silly game that insurance companies were playing using their algorithmns. We are in a world where customer loyalty means nothing and the only consistent thing is the inconsistency. Rant over! MikeT
