What a brilliant explanation and even the maplin part numbers, as I don't venture to foreign parts as I used to I don't think I need to fit this superb mod, if I ever do then I know where to look for instruction. I am still away at the moment and on this trip for the first time I have used an LED fridge temperature gauge. I have been experimenting to see if I need any additional fans, for me personally I don't envisage I will need them yet. I don't go abroad and the results for my fridge have been excellent in UK hot weather.
We have had some very hot days and with the awning over the the fridge vent side it has increased the temperature the fridge has had to use to cool it's self down. This has slightly impacted the cooling properties of the fridge as the air in the awning is still and hot and it has been easily reaching 30+C.
As you probably know the ideal fridge temp should be 3-5C, during the hottest day the fridge peaked at 7C which required me to increase the fridge control which brought it back down to the required temp in approximately 30 minutes. I presume as my fridge is only 3 years old it will be a lot more efficient than a twenty five year old one. I was also surprised how quickly the temperature rose each time the door was opened....
The LED fridge temp gauge has been a really useful bit of kit.

Anyone fancy a poppet

On our previous 2006 Familia the fridge would struggle in temperatures over about 25. Fitting the fans helped a lot.
I had a digital thermometer with remote probe in the fridge to check temperatures.
We now have a 2012 van and the fridge works so much better that I have not needed to fit fans. My conclusion is that the newer fridges are more efficient.
