I don't trust a man wearing tights esp if it is over there head.

I find a stocking or pop sock better for that especially when I'm in a bank

I don't trust men in cardigans, but everything else sounds fine Very smart!
Thanks Mr Space.

That kind of endorsement I can live with. It doesn't have to be ringing.

Would it have made any difference had I said that the cardigan is on back to front? Or that it has a sturdy zipper rather than those faux leather woven buttons?

Just wondering, init.

Okey doke.

We've got a Huawei MiFi very similar to yours except that because it's a slightly older model it can't do 4G, and we've tried balancing it in all kinds of precarious places in an attempt to improve its reception as well. It did work better stuck between the canvas and the trim around the edge of the opening in the roof, and it worked better still - although only marginally - when I put it in the triangular pocket between the vent flap and the mosquito net.

And in the course of this mostly fruitless quest it's fallen on the floor inside and slid off the roof outside.

It's a surprise it still works at all.

So I got to thinking that if I bought an antenna of the correct length for the GSM 2G/3G frequency and plugged it into the external aerial socket on the MiFi thing using a pigtail with the correct connectors, I could put the antenna outside somehow and keep the actual unit inside.

Now at this point I was going to present you with a link to the antenna I bought but I can't remember where I bought it from so you'll have to do a bit of Googling yourself. Being only too aware of how flaky and inconsistent wifi is at the best of times (if I could get back all the time I've wasted buggering around with wireless Internet I'd be able to live to 135 at the very least), I didn't want to spend a lot of money on something which probably wouldn't work very well.

If at all.

So I ended up getting an inexpensive wire aerial the right size and a pigtail like this to connect it to the TS9 socket under the little rubber flap on the side of the MiFi.

Like yours has.

The antenna has a magnetic base, but since there aren't any horizontal ferrous metal surfaces on the outside of these vans I needed something else instead.

So I used a redundant bendy satnav windscreen mount from an old TomTom that Mrs P had broken by sitting on it, glued a piece of thin sheet steel to the satnav end and painted it black to stop it going rusty.

The end result is this. It isn't a very good picture, but you get the idea.

aerial copy.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

So now I can stick the mount anywhere on the van without leaving a mark and run the cable in through a window.

And it works. It works pretty well, in fact.

I've used the Speedtest App on an Android tablet to check, and broadly speaking get twice the speed with the aerial in use. I say broadly speaking because it isn't an empirical thing, as you know. I simply wanted to go from hit and miss to rather more hit and a lot less miss, and in that I can happily report that it has justified the ten or twelve quid the whole thing cost.

So there you are.

In time honoured forum style, I HTH.

Hugs

Me

Following on from the doors gallery where I became known as "3 peg hob"

g133-Door-spruce-ups.html

Got me thinking about the door storage, with 2 of the 4 plastic rails cracked I have been reluctant to keep anything heavy in there while on the move.

However kitchen paper rolls were too big to fit unless part used also discovered that loo rolls were the same on the shelves in the washroom.

So now a tale of 2 halves we have all winter to set aside part used loo and kitchen rolls ready for next season knowing they will fit those locations, also the added benefit of some part used ones in a cupboard if you run out by mistake.

Quiet on here recently, so a human interest post.

Strange how a simple tip can trigger what I call "the snowball effect" (see above)

There I was posting about saving 1\2 loo rolls and me always buying a pack of 4 which resided on the floor
under the sink pedestal until needed, so where to put all these 1\2 rolls? .............. meanwhile I have always hated the bedside cabinets that I bought when times were hard ...................so one fitted nicely between the top of the bath and the wall.

P1020854.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Well ....although I only need one bedside table things have a tendency to look lopsided without the other one so an add on tv about oak furniture land inspired me to look for something better

Some add out takes are worth a look too

Anyway take the time machine back to 1987 and after a big upheaval in my life I felt the need to have a new bed and having always wanted a 4 poster but never the cash to buy one I set out to build one myself .............being employed as a carpenters mate at the time was handy as the guy was more than willing to give me construction tips in the tea breaks

The old Jones sewing machine was pressed into service along with 22 meters of red cloth and many nights sleeping on the settee with the dog

my 4 poster.jpg - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Meanwhile in the house I have now it tends to dominate my bedroom so contemplated turning it into an ordinary bed again, (check the saw blade)

oakfurnitureland I suppose is a product of the modern internet based age lots of showrooms but no stock drive to a shop and you can see all the products but with no onsite warehouse you come home clutching a receipt and awaiting delivery in a week or so

So what did I order? 2 of these

http://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/furniture/cairo-natural-solid-oak-bedside-cabinet/13.html

Meanwhile I was busy with the saw cordless drill and other tools, .............the cabinets arrived yesterday, looks like this now

P1020865.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

So saving 1\2 loo rolls cost me 2 bedside cabinets and a revamp of the bedroom, such is the power of "the snowball effect"

Merry Christmas

And probably hobs last top tip for the year,

With all that cooking, drinking and lighting of candles a reminder about alarm batteries

Present thinking dictates that all alarm batteries fire and carbon monoxide should be replaced at least once a year whether you think they need it or not, so if you can't remember when they were replaced or it was over a year ago

DO IT NOW

Before you cook the turkey, light those nice Christmas candles or have 3 glasses of wine before that nice cigar

New batteries are a small price to pay to see you all here in the new year to quote Mr Spock live long and prosper

See you all in 2016

Being one of those who rarely throw things away when I made my Puck table a few years back

Table

I had a little under 4 inches of table rail left over (found it in a draw the other day)

So .............3 small nuts and bolts and a bit of old alloy sign that was laying around later.

P1020990.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

handy for a cup of tea while setting up on arrival or somewhere to stand my small radio outside

P1020992.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

P1020991.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

as long as nothing heavy goes on there to stress the outside table rail I can see it being very useful, so if you make a smaller table and have a bit of rail left over give it a try.

Can be used in the table rail near the bed for that early morning cuppa or that last glass of wine in bed.

Just what I need. I have moaned about not having a shelf on my rear window side of the bed since we changed to our Troll from the Triton. Little project for myself I think, thanks Hob

To protect your caravan while cleaning the roof tape two pieces of water pipe insulation to the ladder uprights.

DSCF3197.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Tip two, after cleaning the top don't forget to raise the pop top and clean the bit between the seal and the canvas.

Tip three, run a wet cloth along the underside of the seal while the top is up to remove dirt and algae from the seal.
