It would seem that any little bit of the pink stuff left in the system jams up the motor so it is worth after every trip soak and flush through the tank out with Puriclean to ensure it does not clog up.

This is what Thetford have to say on the subject:-

For thorough cleaning of the flush-water tank of mobile toilets, we recommend our customers use Aqua Rinse Plus.

For a fresh and clean start and optimal performance of Aqua Rinse Plus, clean your flush-water tank before the first use by following these instructions.

WHAT NEEDED
Household bleach + bucket/watering can

HOW

1. Prepare a solution using 100ml household bleach per 10L of flush-water tank capacity. Prepare as much solution as needed to completely fill your flush-water tank.
2. Fill the flush-water tank completely with the prepared solution.
3. Leave it in for 24 hours.
4. Drain the flush-water tank by using the drain tube or flushing system.
5. Then fill the flush-water tank completely with fresh water and leave it in for 5 minutes.
6. Drain the flush-water tank again.
7. Repeat step 5+6 to make sure no bleach is left behind.

NOTE

Do not use together with other products.
Exceeding the stated dose or recommended duration could damage your Thetford toilet.

That this saga has now gone into five pages only leads me to conclude that an electric flushing toilet is simply a step too far.

Why on earth does anyone need the added complexity and expense of an electric flushing pump that is prone to costly and inconvenient failure when a manual flushing mechanism does the job just as effectively and with complete reliability?

Whatever happened to the KISS principle of engineering?

Toilet issue has reared it's head yet again. I followed Thetfords advice and flushed and drained the system for wintering. Then when going away this year found the same problem, a jammed pump, managed OK with water in container to flush.

Yesterday managed to get the time to pull out the pump as soaking etc didn't do anything to release it. Couldn't move the impeller with a screwdriver so while the pump was out put some neat bleach into the impeller and left it a while, still nothing so then I used Thetford seal lubricant and gave that a squirt. left it to soak after 2 hours managed to turn the impeller with a little screwdriver and put more water/bleach solution dripped into the small impeller opening.

Pushed the button and stopped and started it and hey preston it came back to whiz around. I am now only going to use water in my flush tank and no chemical as I use a spray into the bowl of the pink stuff, and run a descaler through it at the end of season. So for those that think they may have a defunct pump, if you can hear it getting electric then it could by just jammed and needs to be freed but don't keep pushing the button if it won't whizz or you will burn it out.
