If we're into 'why do's'.

Why do all microwaves hinge on the left (as you look at them)?
Because most people are right handed. If they hinged on the right, the door would be in the way.

It's a bit rough on left-handed peeps, but that's the way it is.

Ah, but if you liberate some Brittany Ferry or P&O glasses they are built of strong stuff. It took us 2 trips to get a set of 4 and no, I don't feel guilt because the price they charge for a glass of wine should include the glass and all

We had two glasses of wine on the Santander ferry and it was so bad that Simon went and got a bottle from the cabin and we kept the glasses! Nobody said anything, although we were discreet.

I would have thought that position in the kitchen would be more important than being right or correct handed.

Why does a set of wine glasses consist of four? It could just as easily be two, or five, or seven. I bet most of the time you only use two (as we do), so I'd have thought two would make a set.

Oh, how antisocial. So that's why we never get a glass of wine when we visit your van

Trying for a ships decanter next

You could always try moving to a different position in the kitchen. How about having your back to the sink or standing on one leg?

Aside from the door being in the way, if it hinges on the right most people would have to put whatever they're carrying to the microwave down, then open the door, then pick it up again and put it inside.

And, of course, if it hinges on the right you'd have to park it "nose in" on some CC Campsites

I don't recall you ever having visited our van

It's not that we don't have enough wine glasses - we've got plenty, as it happens - it's just that we don't feel the need to have a matching set.

I'd be more impressed by what's in the glass than whether it matches all the others or not.

So there...

I find the best answer is to use tumblers instead. They fit the cup holders better and there is less chance of spilling wine on the bends.

Alan, Andy, it looks like we three have a similar approach to wine drinking. We could form a tumblers society.

You'll have to change your name to something beginning with A first.

How about Absalom?

Don't you think Absalom Motteram has a kind of ring to it?
