Roger, I just picked up om #27. When I drew out my plans and elevations and gave them to the architect he wondered what was going on with the window in the porch. I had to explain the assymetry added visual interest. I also decided the letter box was best here as when we are away it is not possible for anybody to peer in and see any post piling up before a neighbour can remove it for us. It also was not a good idea to try and cut a letterbox in the front door as it's 50mm thick and made of steel.

As promised,
In an attempt to keep my sanity I have playing with lumps of wood. Just finished makiing the table/bench on the trolley and need to do a bit of cleaning up on the other smaller two before fixing the battens on the top.
If anybody is of a woody nature they are made out of Iroko, sometims known as poor mans teak.
I hopefully have enough left over to repair a garden table I made 20+ years ago that is starting to show its age and also make a new pair of ADIRONDACK garden seats.
Should keep me going for a couple of weeks with some luck.

The Czech Republic has issued an appeal for its citizens to drink 1.3 million pints of beer which is danger of going off (BBC News). - you can probably see where this is going - As long as we can get deliveries without venturing out, it could be said to be our civic duty to ensure the U.K. doesn’t suffer a similar problem.

Some was from specialist timber merchants. I also had a fair bit from a joinery company I used to buy from and old school science lab tops that were pulled out where I used to teach. When we moved I had about 2 or 3 cubic metres, that's two or three tons of mixed hardwoods. I've gone through over 1/2 of this now.

Denise & Phil,
thank you. Up to a few years before moving I took on a fair bit of one -off joinery and furniture jobs where people wanted something very specific that they could not source ready made. I might start again, not sure.
A general point for anybody out there who sees a piece of joinery of furniture that meets there needs. Buy it. Custom made items are expensive. I would reckon the wood in each of the three small bench/tables would be £50/60. Labour would be about a day for each, so not cheap.
Andy,
That's the sort of thing. The boss had two for her 40th some 20 years ago. As they are made of Iroko you do not need to treat them with anything. Left out in all weathers they go a lovely grey after 2 or 3 years. The two are still serviceable but creak and wobble and exfoliate your arms and legs as you rub across them. If I make a new pair now then when they are at a similar state to the present ones I'll be 80 and won't care.

Update,
I've finished the ADIRONDACK chairs, paced myself to spread it out over a couple of weeks.

The inspiration came from the weathered one in the back, bought by friends for the lovely Mrs eribaMotters birthday 20 years ago. I've altered a few dimensions but it was invaluable for the angles and key sizes you need to follow to ensure comfort.
