Green Card
OK so after some more telephoning and Emailing, we have today received our Green card for European Countries. Free.
For those of you who might be applying for one please note that you have to inform your insurance company that you have a towed trailer on the back.
Note that on the form, Box 6 states the catagory of vehicle. We are informed that A = car/van and F = Caravan/trailer. (Circled in red)
Also note that the list of letters, A, B, BG etc are the countries you are covered for. The key to these letters is on the back of the form.
We have discovered that although we were told that we were comprehensively insured to visit Turkey as well, we need another Green Card, at some cost. That's in the post to us.

To add to all the latter requirements, in the event of a no deal - please remember that anyone traveling with a pet to the EU from the UK will need to consider possible changes to the PET Passport Scheme. Essentially, The UK Government is advising that when planning to take your pet/s, they should prepare a minimum of 4 months in advance before traveling. This is because rabies blood tests will be required (taking up to 3 months for results to come back) in addition to a Health Certificate (Issued no more than 10 days before your UK departure). There will also be a minimum of 30 days after the rabies shot/booster to wait before the blood sample can be taken. The Pet Passport will only likely be valid for the return trip and not visa versa btw.
Here's the .Gov link for those like us who travel with pets.

Anybody remember, as we do, going abroad before we joined the ‘common market’? It wasn’t that bad! If we get ‘no deal’ it will be like going back in time so as far as we are concerned it’s no big deal. Just follow government advice. Simples!

Do you remember the restrictions in the quantities of wine, cigarettes etc you could take home? Fewer peeps smoke but I think more people drink wine then back in the dark old days

I represent that proportion of the population. I packed in smoking 33 yrs ago this August 3rd 9.45pm.
I definitely drink more, in particular French red wine. I enjoy the liquid more than the "new world" stuff that I find heavy.
Our car will seem positively empty on our return trip from summer hols if they start regulating how much we can buy.

RE: So sad. It was all so easy before and now it will be so complicated. We have decided to wait and see what happens before making plans for a trip to the EU.
If your dog is rabies vaccinated then a blood test (the dogs!) is all that is required. You will have to wait 3 months for the test results before traveling though. Then get a OV Health Certificate from your vet no more than 10 days before traveling. Your existing Pet Passport is valid for the return with the usual worming treatment also. Hopefully, none of us willneed to do any of this if a deal goes through - otherwise its a blood-test for our dog next month for travel to Spain and France end of August.

Thanks for this info. Made me think about whether my insurance company knew I had a tow bar on my car in the first place. Turns out they didn't! So not down as a modification, but £30 admin fee later now covered.
