Tilly, our cockerpoo, is a genteel lady. so she managed to failed her rabies blood test. So a second rabies injection, second blood test and now £440 lighter in the wallet. We are screwed if she fails again.
Did someone say no big deal

#51, Mon Jan 21st 2019, 2:48pm Bloody Government We've just had an Email from Brittany Ferries saying that "due to the Government's "Initiative" to create additional freight capacity for the transportation of critical goods", our overnight ferry in early April will now leave Britain 30 minutes earlier but is getting into the French Port 90 minutes earlier meaning we'll have to get up 90 minutes earlier. So we lose out on 90 minutes in our cabin. Do you think we can get a 90 minute refund?
"Initiative?" Is that like the fact that they've set aside boats from a company that doesn't own any boats?

Well, well, would you believe it? Yes, of course you would. By now anything is believable.
Earlier this evening we had an EMail from Brittany Ferries saying that "following our commitment to support the Government.............in the event of a No Deal Brexit etc etc" they have altered the sailing time for our homeward bound boat from 10pm in early July to 11:45 pm and rather than arriving back in the UK at 7:15 the following morning it is now getting in at 6am Hardly worth buying the cabin.
Coincidental timing to notify us on the day that Parliament has decided to ask for an extension of three months which takes us to the end of June. The more suspicious amongst us could think that it was a pre-plan.

Sorry Brian but I thought it was clear.
They are putting the sailing time back from 10 PM to 11;45 PM and rather than arriving back in the UK at 7:15 the following morning it is now getting in at 6am

perhaps they have heard about you and are speeding up???
Yes, I've heard that they've added oars to all the outside cabins so that they can gain even more speed.
So after an exchange of several Emails we are told "tough", and they hinted that this rescheduling may be long term giving more sailing choices for their customers.
So, I'll have a go at Chris Grayling instead. Has anyone seen or heard about him lately?

I believe he's spending all his time on Gumtree trying to buy second hand ferries

Pet passport and rabies blood test update -
Just paid £116 for a rabies blood test (for our dog not me) to cover a trip in August. This may seem insane since the Brexit extension to 31 Oct 19, but the current indecisiveness in Parliament means all could still go pear-shaped. The dog still needs to pass though, in which case the dog will need re-vaccinated and then blood tested again 30 days for the vaccination. Its information that I hope nobody needs.

Both dogs have had the blood tests. One passed and the other has not. Second rabies vaccination for him done today and now have to wait the thirty days plus for the next blood test. Actually the older dog had had a blood test when he was first vaccinated so now we are doubly sure about him! (If somewhat lighter in the pocket than if we had we had checked more carefully!) In view of the fact that some dogs are failing the blood test it seems a bit daft that the regular practice of testing was stopped some years ago. Its annoying though that we will have to organise various certificates and bits of paper for travel with them in future rather than the neat pet passport.

You can still take the dogs out of the UK without the wait if it was a booster Magpie, under the current rules. I was told by the relevant govt department that so long as Boris leaves and comes back within his 3 yr first vaccination period all would be fine. Have they marked his passport with the failed blood test? The dept also said, that as long as he travelled out under the current rules, even if we did a no deal Brexit whilst we were out of the UK, that he would come back without any problems. Boris was due his first booster in August but we had it done early last week before we go away for 2 months. We plan to go outside the UK again in Sept for 2 months. Giving his vaccination early means we'll have time for the rabies test in between the trips if we do go out on a no deal before 31st October, but the chance of that happening is very remote. Vets must be making a killing with all this! - not that I blame them, they don't make the rules or cause the uncertainty!

RE: Both dogs have had the blood tests. One passed and the other has not...
I have often thought that if a pet is OK for a return trip to the EU under the current Pet Passport scheme, why is it that it may need a further blood test at all? Its a lot of money. Sorry your dog failed btw.

Because we can't go very far at present (himself is still hobbling with the new knee) we decided to cover ourselves for all
future eventualities. Gryph's passport has no space for a blood test result, failed or otherwise, (although the older dog's on has), But I wouldn't like to take him now that I know he that he isn't actually protected from rabies. Hopefully all will be sorted by the time Mr. Magpie is more mobile.

Resurrecting this thread, well the doggie element of it....
We've booked a ferry to Santander 1st May 2020. BoJo is promising we leave the EU on 31st Jan, with 1 year transition from that date. If that happens, I shouldn't have to worry about the rabies test, should I? ......is that how others with dogs are going to treat things in 2020? We go to South America at the beginning of Jan for a month, and we wont have time when we get back to deal with a failed rabies test if they are imposed (allowing for any revaccination and subsequent test). Forking out about £400 for pointless testing is not what I want to be doing, but neither is being refused entry on the ferry in May, losing the considerable fare and messing up our summer plans.
Am I worrying unnecessarily?
