Machine polishing
Now you know when you look at something and think that does'nt look right! Well earlier I was enjoying a cup of coffee sat in the sun outside our Eriba cafe and as I had full forwards tilt on (ready for tomorrows roof exploits) I could see the spare wheel, I knelt down and initially pushed at it to see if it was inflated, and low and behold it was soft!!!! So it's off and in the car ready for inflating on my run to Aldi tomorrow, as they have something the Agger would like for his caravan
I have also obtained some thin plastic sheet which I intend to cover the spare wheel supports with to stop it from grooving I have plastic conduit currently but think the sheeting will be better.

Would there be enough room to slide circular, wheel-and-tyre sized sheets of corrugated plastic above and below the spare and within the cage? The kind that estate agents' For Sale boards are made of? Our local council has loads of these sheets which it confiscates when people have put up unlicensed roadside signs, and they're happy to give them away. Just a thought.

Hi Martyn, yes it would, I think it's another option, just not sure if it would be strong enough, my spare like my running tyres are Kargomax and when the spare is in the holder it is a very tight fit so "forms grooves in the sidewall, I know others have commented on it, I'm not happy about it myself as I "think" it could lead to problems with the spare, I have no proof of this but then again I don't want to be in a position where I have proof but no van

The way I got around the soft spare in the cradle problem, was to buy an extension air line, one metre long, and screw it to the valve, once the spare is in the cradle. Take this to the rear of the van, secured with plastic electrical cable wire clips, ending in a homemade metal bracket at the edge of the rear of the van. This way, it get checked with the other two tyres, when doing the pressures. (can't do the crawling underneath easily, any longer !!) Ian.
I think that was what caused my problem! I had new tyres fitted last year and the tyre fitter re-attached my extension air line, we used the van after that and as always I pull into the local garage and check the pressures, I remember having to put some air into the spare each time, so yesterday when I took the spare out I took the extension off, as a way of checking, time will tell

7 hours of unbroken sunshine!! Shorts on (well they have been since the beginning of February) Had an excuse to try out my new toy from Aldi, worked a treat and stores in the under bed cupboard
Washed, dried & waxed, all but the pop top (and that's only because my ladder needs mending as mentioned previously) then I did the car as well need some more Harly now, looking really good for an 04 van that is now officially 11 years old. If this weather holds we will be away very soon, want to go to Damage Barton as it opens on the 13th but we have a few things to sort out first.
I also re mounted the spare and have hopefully used a method to stop tyre sidewall grooving, I'll report back on this at some point in the future.

Well it's been another lovely day! Had the chairs out sat by the van in the garden! Even managed to wash, dry and wax the Eriba again, looking good now, had the awning out (Fiamma Caravanstore) cleaned it and the holding bag, could be sometime soon

Tip. If you use a Caravanstore awning and leave it on your van, get a piece of thick polythene the length of the awning bag and about twice as deep, feed this into the gap between the awning rail and bag and it keeps your bag clean and algae free!

Another stunner here today, so it just had to be done! I was going to machine polish the pop top but left it in the end due to heat!
In the end it was a wash and dry followed by a coat of Harly too everything except the pop top, I did the lower part of the roof though, looks stunning!
My new Aldi step works well, I can reach everything except the pop top with it, so I'm pleased with that
The next job is another pre holiday check of everything! Including running the fridge on gas, electric, 12v etc

I'm going to polish the windows at some point in the future, probably when were on holiday When Mrs Agger is watching some carp on the telly.
Got my corrugated cardboard and polish I'll post some pictures of before and after when I get around to it

It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
It was a tic (tongue in cheek) comment, but it does work especially if the windows are deeply scratched / gouged. I'll try brasso or duraglit first on a cleaning cloth but if need be I'll resort to the cardboard (which needs to be really wet with brasso, if you don't complete the job in one day put it in a plastic bag overnight and it'll be good the next day)
